Melend tends to be overly formal, and is not a very good dancer. He is initially intimidated by Vin, because of her association with Elend, but she tells him that he's a family friend, and that [[Teven Renoux|Lord Renoux]] asked him to watch over her at the balls. Afterward, Melend relaxes and dances more easily. Vin asks him about Elend, who he knows very little about. He thinks she's very good at dancing, and flirts with her. He lets slip that [[Shan Elariel]] has been gossiping about her, but doesn't say anymore. After a short dance, Melend leads Vin back to her table.{{book ref|mb1|18}} |
