Brightlady Teshav Khal is an Alethi woman on Roshar. She serves in Highprince Dalinar Kholin's warcamp on the Shattered Plains.[2]
Appearance & Personality
Teshav has a pinched face, violet eyes, and black Alethi hair with a blonde streak, indicating some foreign blood in her family. She often wears her hair up, woven in a complex pattern.[2]
Teshav is often worried about various problems, resulting in a near perpetual expression of concern on her face. Teshav is extremely loyal to Dalinar; he is reasonably sure that he can trust Teshav completely.[2]
Attributes and Abilities
Teshav's abilities with reading and writing allow her to act as a scribe for both her husband and Dalinar.[2] She has also acted as an advisor to Dalinar, and the Highprince views her as one of the best political minds in Alethkar.[3] She works closely with her husband, developing efficient patterns of patrol for Dalinar's soldiers fighting bandits.[2]
History
Teshav is married to General Khal, one of Dalinar's officers. Dalinar often utilizes her skill as a scribe and attendant. She often relays reports from Adolin about how his tasks are going, such as the investigation into Elhokar's girth strap.[2]
Teshav also investigates things herself on Dalinar's orders, such as the actions of other highprinces, banditry statistics, or the king's accounts. She will also draft missives and notices on Dalinar's orders.[2]
Dalinar has Teshav read various histories, seemingly so she can better understand the needs of the Alethkar.[2]
Teshav acts as a witness to the wedding of Dalinar and Navani along with Brightness Kalami.[4]
Teshav is present as an advisor during Dalinar's attempts to contact the other monarchs to unify Roshar against the voidbringers, providing insight on the nations of Thaylenah and Azir.[3] She acted as a guide to Taravangian and his retinue during their first visit to Urithiru.[5] Teshav also acted as a scribe to Queen Fen for Dalinar and Navani.[6]
She was present near the Oathgate during the battle of Thaylen City, communicating with Urithiru before the Oathgate was reclaimed. Once Alethi reinforcements arrived, Teshav's scribe station became a command post within the city.[7] Afterwards, she makes Shallan tea. Shallan notes that the tea is bitter and likely has something in it to keep Teshav on her feet, noting scribes always know the best tea for those type of purposes. [8]
Following the conflict in Thaylen City, Teshav acted as a head scribe for the coalition military forces. She oversaw many of the battle reports, and provided the Mink with the necessary information after his arrival in Urithiru.[9]
Teshav joined Dalinar and his forces at battlefront in Emul, and worked alongside other scribes and generals in the war effort. She reported the results of the Veden betrayal to Dalinar and his allies. She also oversaw the status of Urithiru during the tower's occupation. [10] While in Emul, Teshav also acted as an intermediary between Dalinar and the other monarchs. [11]
