The Luthadel Garrison was a standing force of twenty thousand well-armed, well-trained troops. Its primary duty is to maintain order in Luthadel.[1]

Most soldiers in the Garrison are skaa who sold out to the Lord Ruler in exchange for a better life. Their job requires that they keep up an intimidating face, which makes them not very well liked.[2] While doing patrols, they kicked at beggars to make sure they were truly invalid, harassed wandering workers when they weren't working, and made a general nuisance of themselves.[3]
While stopping rebels is the sort of thing the Garrison was created to do, they were also responsible for guarding Luthadel's wall and gates. However, no one ever attacked Luthadel during the Final Empire.[4]
Garrisoners wore full armor, with breastplate, cap and black cloak.[3] Captains like Sertes bore a few extra stripes of color and gold-colored bits of metal on their shoulder.[2]
The Garrison did nighttime patrols.[5]
Their fortifications are close to the Steel Gate.[6] The complex had a defensive appearance and was guarded by hostile looking soldiers at the gates. Large spikes were mounted on the wall that ran around it, and the buidings within were bulky and fortified.[2]

History
It was a point of annoyance for Yeden's Skaa Rebellion, as they couldn't take the city while the Garrison was active.[1]
One of the focuses of the first meeting of Kelsier's crew and the skaa rebellion was discussing how to neutralize the Garrison.[7] Before the Collapse, Ham was a frequent visitor, and once brought Vin along with him to help her practice pewter Allomancy.[2]
The majority left Luthadel to hunt for skaa rebels after the rebellion attacked the Holstep Garrison.[4]
During the New Empire, the Luthadel Garrison served Elend.[8]
