There are potential allies out there. Moonlight's world, perhaps. Or the land of the aethers. Hell, maybe even Mythos.

Dhatri[2][3] is a planet in the cosmere that is the origin of the aethers.[4] Kelsier mentioned the planet to Harmony as a potential ally for Scadrial.[1]

History[edit]

At an unknown point before 348 PC, it was struck by a force or entity known as the dark aether, leaving the planet inhospitable to aetherbound.[5][6]

Culture[edit]

Religion[edit]

Gods[edit]

They are known to worship the aethers as gods, which they believe predate not only the Shattering, but Adonalsium in its entirety.[5] They believe that aethers made all people, creating them to each think differently from one another.[7]

Rebirth[edit]

They also believe humans were gifted with rebirth by the aethers to encourage, bless, and uplift their fellow people.[8] Those that follow the aethers also hold that people return to the aethers upon their deaths to reflect upon their choices in life.[6] It is believed that people who have made poor choices are cursed to wait a long time until their next rebirth.[8] They often swear with phrases such as "by the first aether".[9]

Nations[edit]

It has at least twelve known kingdoms, each one seemingly associated with a specific aether.[8] The exact nature of their governments is unknown, but they have a position known as a Raj, and a body known as the Coriander Court.[8]

Inhabitants[edit]

Trivia[edit]

  • The planet is a "12 world" just like Roshar is a 10-world and Scadrial is a 16-world.[10]
  • The planet is inspired by the Indian Subcontinent.[11]
  • Brandon considers it to be one of the "core planets",[12][13] and is planning a series set on the world.[14]
  • Brandon is being assisted in the world-building for Dhatri by individuals named Kelyani and Rahul.[2][15]
