Soulcasting allowed the Surgebinder to transform any material into a variety of other materials notably the Ten Essences, users of Soulcasting Fabrials had to use stormlight from the corresponding gemstone however it is unknown whether this same restriction applied to Surgebinders. It was believed to be impossible to Soulcast Gemstones.
It was believed that it was possible to become a Surgebinder capable of Soulcasting through bonding with a specific type of spren. Two orders of the Knights Radiant had inherent Soulcasting ability.[1]
There was also a type of fabrial that allowed anyone to Soulcast. The fabrials themselves were considered holy objects, used only by Ardents and in extreme secrecy.
Known Soulcasters
Jasnah and Shallan both possesed Soulcasting abilities.
