Kelsier looks out over Elendel from atop a skyscraper. Sazed appears, and informs Kelsier that the kandra discovered atium dust in Wax's laboratory, caused by the splitting of harmonium using trellium. He tells Kelsier that Marsh will be able to survive now. Kelsier hopes that the explosion produces lerasium as well, but Sazed tells him it gets destroyed in the process. Kelsier tells Sazed he's not capable of protecting Scadrial, but Sazed says he has it in hand. Kelsier urges Sazed to lead them into a new technological age, so they can find new allies and ways to defend themselves. He argues with Sazed, saying that they need to speed up their technological advancement to survive. Kelsier tells Sazed that he'll protect Scadrial at any cost.
