Spensa was hit hard by Bim's death and struggled with her grief after losing her friend, keenly aware of the holes that had been left in the flight by the loss of [[Bim]] and [[Morningtide]].{{book ref|sky1|20}} Despite her initial struggles to vocalize her feelings about the loss of her friends, Spensa was able to offer the other members of Skyward Flight some words of comfort, reminiscing on Bim's positive attitude and how much he smiled.{{book ref|sky1|20}}{{book ref|sky1|21}}{{book ref|sky1|20}} Following his death, she finds that she is more sharply reminded of his absence during times that he would have contributed to conversation during their training.{{book ref|sky1|20}}{{book ref|sky1|23}} She regrets being unable to help him choose a callsign before his death and attempts to share this with [[Hurl]], however, the other girl dismisses her due to a combination of trying to process her own grief and also because of her prejudices against Spensa's heritage.{{book ref|sky1|23}} It took several weeks for Spensa to come to terms with Bim's death, and although she has moved past her grief, his memory has stayed with her and the loss of her flightmate never fully faded.{{book ref|sky1|34}}{{book ref|sky2|43}}{{book ref|sky2|3}}
