Hanavanar was on fairly good terms with the rulers of Alethkar, good enough that Shallan believed that if her theft of Jasnah's Soulcaster was discovered, he would have turned House Davar over to the Alethi for execution.

Appearance
Hanavanar wore a square, brown, beard, and a prominant nose. He had a thick waist and shoulders.

Personality
Hanavanar was a rather clever mansmart enough to realize that he could be a potential target for Szeth, after three of the Veden highprinces were murdered. He was also wily enough to keep his Shardblade a secret, although some rumors managed to get out. However, he severely underestimated Szeth's abilities, arrogantly assuming that he, two Shardbearers, and guards wielding half-shards would be enough to defeat Szeth. He also grew frustrated easily, swearing at his men when they failed to kill Szeth quickly. He also did not value the lives of his guests above his own, he set a trap for an assassin known for committed massacres during a dinner party.
