▲Hanavanar was a rather clever man, smart enough to realize that he could be a potential target for Szeth, after three of the Veden highprinces were murdered. He was also wily enough to keep his [[Shardblade]] a secret, although some rumors managed to get out. However, he severely underestimated Szeth's abilities, arrogantly assuming that he, two [[Shardbearer]]s, and guards wielding [[half-shard]]s would be enough to defeat Szeth. He also grew frustrated easily, swearing at his men when they failed to kill Szeth quickly. Hanavanar also did not value the lives of his guests above his own, he set a trap for an assassin known for committed massacres during a dinner party.

King Hanavanar spent years of his reign setting his highprinces against each other.{{book ref|sa4|19}} He bonded a [[Shardblade]] secretly at some point, and although he never admitted to it, some rumors of his Blade leaked out. When his highprinces began dying at [[Szeth]]'s hands, he realized he might be the assassin's next target and devised a trap for him at one of his feasts.{{book ref|sa1|i|9}}

On {{Rosharan date|1173|9|1|4}},{{ref|name=obtime}} during the feast, Hanavanar hid two [[Shardbearer]]s under his table, counting on them plus his own Blade to be enough to defeat Szeth. He also outfitted dozens of his soldiers with [[half-shard]]s, but Szeth forewent his [[Honorblade]] for a while and used the martial art of [[kammar]] to incapacitate the soldiers in various ways. Hanavanar dodged a table knife that was [[Lashing|Lashed]] towards him, then stood his ground behind his Shardbearers. He finally ran from Szeth after his Shardbearers fell, but Szeth pursued him, beat down his [[half-shard]] shield, and killed him.{{book ref|sa1|i|9}}
