A general purpose external link footnote can be created by using the syntax
<nowiki>{{ref|text=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandon_Sanderson}}</nowiki>
which will produce a footnote{{ref|text=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandon_Sanderson}} which links to the site specified by the "text=" tag.
