He served Straff Venture as a general and took part in the Siege of Luthadel. After Straff was killed in the final battle of that siege, Janarle bowed to the New Empire. Henceforward he would administrate the Northern Dominance from Urteau.
As Quellion began to revolt against the New Empire, Janarle flew from Urtreau. On the way through the Northern Dominance he was attacked by Kolosses and transformed into one of them. He took part in the battle for the Pits of Hathsin. He probably burned from the sun, like most of the Kolosses did.
