Karm was a historical figure on Roshar.
He was an advisor to Nohadon and once led a group of Surgebinders, and was Dalinar's host in one of his visions.[1] He was a man of letters, though he lost his right arm at some point before the vision. It seemed Nohadon was comfortable with Karm talking casually with him at the time of the vision.
When Dalinar brings Venli into the same vision, she plays the role of Karm, but has a Parshendi appearance. Dalinar then distracts Nohadon in order to talk to Venli.[2]
