Moash is a skilled spearman, enough so to kill an attacking [[Fused]]. For a time, he also haspossessed a set of [[Shardblade]] and [[Shardplate]],. andWhile thoughMoash hewas doesable haveto somemove trainingnaturally within themhis Plate after less than a week, he's notis particularlyless goodskilled with themthe Shardblade, finding it too clunky, and still defaultsdefaulted to the spear when his life iswas on the line.{{book ref|sa2|68}}{{book ref|sa3|43}} Eventually, he's given [[Jezrien]]'s [[Honorblade]], granting him control over the [[Surge]]s of [[Gravitation]] and [[Adhesion]]. He appears to be natural at using it, as it takes him no time at all to drink in [[Stormlight]] and use Lashings.{{book ref|sa3|122}}

Both of Moash's parents died when he was a child. He was raised by his grandparents [[Ana]] and [[Da]], who both worked as silversmiths in [[Kholinar]].{{book ref|sa2|44}} It was his grandfather who named him. Later, Moash would discover that he has the samehis name as an ancientis [[singer]] of some renown,{{book ref|sa3|54}} although it is unknown whether his grandfather was aware ofin thisorigin.{{book ref|sa3|54}}

When [[Adolin]] tried to give [[Kaladin]] the gift of [[Shardblade]] and [[Shardplate]], Kaladin instead gave them to Moash, thereby making him a lighteyes in rank.{{book ref|sa2|66}} The Shardblade had a twisting vine pattern along the center of the blade, and the Shardplate, previously belonging to [[Abrobadar]], was painted orange.{{book ref|sa2|66}} Moash later had the Plate repainted to be blue with red accents.{{book ref|sa2|68}} His eyes started to lighten a week after receiving the Shards,{{book ref|sa2|77}} though he still did not consider himself lighteyes.

They head out into the wilderness with a caravan of stolen goods. Graves intended to introduce Moash to the [[Diagram (group)|Diagram]], hoping that bringing back a full Shardbearer could compensate for his plan's failure. A short while into the trip, they were attacked by a group of [[Fused]]. Graves was killed, and Moash attempted to fight with his Shardblade, but deemed it too unwieldy. He got hold of a spear and was able to kill [[Leshwi]], one of the Fused.

Upon seeing this, the other Fused consideredgave Moash toa havechoice, enoughhe "passion"could togive earnup theirhis respect,weapons and gavecome himwith thethem, choiceor betweendie deathat andtheir slaveryhands.{{book Heref|sa3|43}} choseThey slavery,did gavethis upbecause histhey Shardsthought andthat hisLeshwi otherwould weaponswant to have revenge once she was reborn.
