Rockbuds are plants with rock-like shells on Roshar. The term refers to all plants that have shells as well as to the "True" or "Common" Rockbud.[1] The shell protects the more sensitive organism within from Highstorms. After storms, tendrils reach out of the bud to lap up the water on the ground.
Rockbuds vary in size growing up to as large as a man's head. Rockbuds are a highly useful. They contain watergourds which can be used in the treatment of wounded, they are used as food for both chulls and are cultivated by Listeners who use stormlight to encourage their growth. They will drink blood of Greatshells. In moister climates never quite pull into their shell completely. They hibernate in winter. can "eat away" at stone buildings if not scraped off. Rockbud bark is flamable. Dried rockbud pulp is used in paper making. They grow nearly everywhere even on Tai-na. Some rockbuds blossom and some don't, and they have green vines.
