During Scadrial's space age, conflict began to grow between it and other planets, leading to the start of an interplanetary arms race and growing military aggression.{{book ref|tsm|44}} During this arms race, the [[TimeTellers]] travelled to [[Canticle]], where they studied the planet, and taught the [[Cinder King]] how to make [[Charred]], leading to the acceleration of his planetary conquest.{{book ref|tsm|44}}
